FAQ
Wait List
A referral is not required for occupational therapy services in Ontario; however, some insurance providers may request one for reimbursement.
Yes! Families are welcome to book a complimentary 15-minute phone call to ask general questions about pediatric OT services and learn more about LUNA. This call is informational only and does not include individualized recommendations or feedback.
Complete the online wait list form by clicking “Join the Wait List.” The form collects information about your child’s needs and helps determine fit and availability.
Initial Assessment
The initial assessment includes in-person evaluation with your child, a parent consultation to discuss observations and goals, and a written summary. A full report is available for an additional fee if requested.
This depends on the comfort level of both the child and the parent. In many cases, parents are encouraged to wait outside the treatment room so the child can feel more independent and the therapist can get the most natural and accurate picture of their skills. However, accommodations can be made if needed.
Your child will take part in a combination of standardized activities and informal play-based observations. These activities are designed to feel engaging and fun while helping the therapist understand your child’s skills, development, and everyday functioning.
The assessment is primarily play-based. This approach helps children feel comfortable and allows the therapist to observe their abilities in a natural, meaningful way while they are actively engaged and having fun.
During the assessment, parents may be asked to complete short questionnaires either in person or online. These help us better understand your child’s daily life at home, school, and in the community. We use the PEO model (Person, Environment, Occupation) to get a clearer picture of your child’s strengths, challenges, and overall needs.
Follow-Up Sessions
Yes. A parent or caregiver must remain on-site during all sessions to ensure safety and to support consistent collaboration and coaching.
Sessions vary in length depending on your child’s needs. Each session includes dedicated time for caregiver collaboration to review strategies, answer questions, and plan for carryover at home.
Therapy is organized into blocks of 12 weeks following the initial assessment. At the end of each block, a dedicated parent consultation is scheduled to review progress and determine next steps. The number and frequency of sessions within each block are determined collaboratively.
The duration of therapy depends on your child’s needs and goals. Some children may progress quickly, while others may benefit from longer-term support. Progress is regularly reviewed with caregivers.
Additional Questions
Yes. Occupational therapy services may be covered through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP), as long as they are directly related to services supporting your child. Coverage may also be available through extended health insurance or other funding sources, depending on your plan and eligibility. We recommend confirming details with your funding provider, as coverage can vary. Receipts are provided for reimbursement purposes.
When appropriate and with consent, collaboration with teachers or other professionals may be incorporated to support consistency across environments. Caregivers remain the central part of the team.
